Lots of nice engine kits to choose from in USA t seems most wouldnt take long to put together.. there are some exceptions, (lol) like the three cylinder fairbanks, and a few V-8's and radials of course. this looks nice, Its an Root and Vandervroot hit, 1/2 scale, nice looking engine! R & V
Here is another:Red Devil
Anyway, enough dreaming, Im off to the MSMEE expo in melbourne on saturday, click here for details
should be great fun! Ill meet up with Dad in melbourne, and we will go out to monash uni on saturday morning. got some spending money for then, so will see;-)

Saturday!

well, went shopping with Anna (16 and my sister) after lunch, bought up big.. maybe not but did ok. I got a new pair of size 12 Doc Marten's black 8 hole boots, (for work and good) and a coupla CD's. One is the Gretchen Wilson Album, "Here for the Party" think I like her anyway, Allthough not everyones type I guess. www.gretchenwilson.com

Also bought a copy of the 2001 bush poets Awards, 2001. not bad, bit of good fun. was cheap anyway.

Came home, spent a few hours in the workshop on govenors. seems to be going together ok now. hope to get them mounted up on the tractor before Dad gets back.. running out of time though now.
Pizza for tea now, then bed sometime.

Un believable...

Tuesday

well here we are... Tuesday.

this is getting a bit monotonous... not much to report really, I'm reading Nevill Shute's "no Highway" at the moment, great book, put it on the List. last night was a bit quiet at work, so got into it a bit. He was a great Author, and a Model Engineer too. bought a new book on friday as well,

A great read if you are interested in Waterloo boys, "D", "GP", tractors.. it covers the other twins too, but its comprehensive on those three models..

WED NIGHT

Been out with my mate Mick, had coffee at cafe blue, not a bad spot on wednesday night, was just getting busy at 10pm when we left.. its at the Inveresk museum and arts academy site. worth a visit, abeit somewhat out of the way.
Is cold here, bed time for me. not achieved much today, again.

Wednesday, September 15, 2004

Wednesday already!

up!

Dad wrote, they will be in Towoomba tonight. they have been to charters towers, sent back rave reviews!
"Went to Charters Towers today and if you ever get a chance to go there go somewhere else if at all possible. The most miserable place I've ever had the misfortune to visit - and it's not even hot yet. A lotta mining history in a lotta different little holes. Nothing between T'ville and C/Towers and less between there and here!! Enhanced by the fact that theres been no rain for about 8 months. Got some good Photos of not much!!"
so sounds like a good holiday so far.

Hair cut day today, then might go visiting, or come back here and do something constructive.. not sure which. wouldnt mind cooking something, or just going down the workshop. who knows!

lent Ray my Jasper Fforde book, not sure how hes getting on with it. The bookshop got in the latest one, called "Something rotten" and thats the best one of the lot I think:-)
now I have the code word, and can look at the "extra features" on the web! www.jasperfforde.com

and then some more washing.
now I'm blogging to relax before work.

Hope its another busy night, Im thinking it probably will be, the NTFA boys are still out there celebrating.
No word from Watson's (the jewellers) yet either, wish they would hurry up, money is here anyway when they got to it.
Gotta get some shoes I think. wearing my doc's tonight, but they aren't regulation colour...(lol) but maybe no one will notice. see they are on special in town.
should get into the workshop agaian tomorrow, been so busy.. not sure I want to move out of home any time soon... :-)

sunday

off to work.

Sat. night

Inside now, cooked up a feed for myself, eating that, and updating this.
Had a play with the govenor shaft, almost finished again now, needs a little spacer collar still on one end. the Governor mechanism works really well though, at 710 rpm in the lathe, I'm wondering if the biro spring I had planned for the throttle rod linkage will be strong enough... will certainly close down a carby nicely. better get in this week and make the levers, etc, so I can try it out. Thinking about carbies, too, I wonder if we can get away with a little diaphram type, like on a wipper snipper, or similar.. its a big engine, but only low RPM.

Saturday already

Time flies when your busy! seems like just yesterday I was writing saturdays entry. Cooking again, hope to get that governor shaft machined tonight.
Its not a complicated thing, just needs a polished section for the govenor slide, and a thread on each end to retain the gears. meeds some kind of magneto drive as well.. think a shaft with an internal thread and a key in one side would do it.. got to find an internal gear with an even number of teeth, about 1" PCD, for the magneto coupling.. nylon might even do, but brass or steel would be better.

Friday

Mum n dad are in the witsundays I think. nice to be some!

Im just going off to work.. fed the cat, cooked myself some stir fry, washed up, its raining here.. Dunno what kind of night I'll have.

Thursday

Hey, seem to have missed a day yesterday... no one else has missed much to be quite honest.
Today I'll be just cleaning up a bit around here, i.e. repacking the dishwasher- and getting ready for work. its cold n overcast, so not much fun outside really.
Here is a link i got emailed today...Model engine builder magazine take a look and support it is my view.. hope it goes ahead ok, should get a good following. I think ill subscribe.

tuesday

Today is tuesday, definately with a lower case letter... not feeling much like anything, work included.. better get out there though. just having a coffee first.
Was talking to Dad yesterday arvo, they're heading to Townsville for a look Thursday.. two days up and two back.. sounds ok. in Hervey bay until then.
maybe some more later

Monday, September 06, 2004

Monday

Another early morning.. got woken up again at 11.30. good tho, ill have time to make those boot sockets now. got an email from Arthur in brisbane, his models look good, and he has a few model engineer magazines to get rid of maybe! one of my weeknesses!
Recieved a letter from dad, they're at Hervey bay, could be going to Townsville for a few days! wow.. thats a bit unexpected.
On a more sober note.
some absolute MONGREL torched a shed full of busses at Beauty point yesterday. included was a 1946 ford sideloader that was being restored. thats a rare bus. looks to be totally destroyed. a real pity, sideloader busses are even rare overseas.
What a misserable thing to do.
better go do a bit anyway, got some paperwork to do today, also in the shed.

Sunday Arvo

Gosh its cold here. prolly should light the fire, but I'm off to work in 35 mins, so whats the point. hope its a busy night.
hopefully tomorrow I can get down to the workshop, ill get those boot sockets done, and maybe start another shaft for the governor housing.
Should ring dad tonight for fathers day, I guess he is having fun anyway though.

Saturday!

Well its my day off again.. lots happening it seems, been to town, bought out the Body shop, thats good product I think. works for me, anyway, paid off a layby, and paid some bills. Hey I also bought Jasper ffordes book, "The well of lost plots" I haven't read that yet, but got "The eyre Affair" and its one of the most Imaginative and well put together works of fiction I have ever read.. If you know the classics, then I'd definately recommend it.
Also saw a "smart" car.. just looking them on the web, built by daimler chrysler in UK, look a good machine, maybe the English have finally made a car that is ok. The smart. 4L/100 km is not bad.
done some cleaning, washing, and etc.
not much else to report.

friday still - post chocolate cake and dissapointments

got the cake made... thats a good thing, also talked to Arthur Hassam for a while on the phone. guess he probably reads this, so not saying to much ;-)
Actually is the first time we have spoken, and we got on fine! As for the dissapointment, my gear cutter came today, and is the the wrong one.. so much for trying to work it out! Ill try to get it swapped over monday, as its too expensive to keep. it should be 20 deg pressure ange I think.

Anyway heaps to do tomorrow anyway.. better go ice this cake.

Friday morning, too early.

The phone woke me up this morning, was a workshop job. I'll do it for dad anyway, not too highly challenging. Might get it done saturday. I also was wondering then if the courier had come with my gear cutter button, but haven't seen him yet. might have to get dressed, and go down n make a govenor shaft for the JD. theres a chocolate cake needs making too, its a toss up there!

Thursday

Yawn.. up early again.. The phone woke me up.
So fired up this old girl, played minesweeper for a few mins, not in the zone to beat my best time today, (8 secs incidently) so gave that up. I'm having a look at the J.K. Rowling's Official site again now. Great site, and for anyone who has lived with their head in the sand in the last 10 years, she is the author of the Harry Potter series of books. Great author!
If anyone is interested in web design, this is worth a look too, as its the direction web media will head in the future, I believe.
Going down to the workshop soon, i'll change the chuck over again anyway, and probably start blanking out that 46 tooth idler gear. cutter might be here tomorrow. Need an 8mm castlated nut for the outside of the pivot pin. 1/2" should be a big enough bearing surface for that gear I think.

Wed night

Online again!.
Not much happened tonight, Dad rang from Glen Innes, they are having real fun i think. they have been to gunnedah tractor museum (cant remember if I've been there or not...) and a few other things.. visiting a lot among friends.
As an asides, it looks like I've got a format here that I'm fairly happy with for the moment, I'll try to customize it a bit more as I go.. got some idea what I'd like. This will get more hits, as I now have it fully linked from my web page.
nearly bed time for me here.

Wed arvo

Just a picture and some tractor reflections... those gears are 14.5 deg. pressure angle. so I ordered a cutter just now, expensive tools though.
this is the worm drive steering for the JD.. latest picture. I'll upload these to my page ASAP.

I will publish this to my page I think, just a matter of setting it up, and everyone should be able to just link directly!

Wednesday

Gosh what a night!
So many wierd things happened, where do I start? some lady I picked up in riverside told me her whole life history, and read her boyfriend's pedigree as well..
Apparently her stars said she was gunna meet her "life partner" the same week she met this guy, also that thier grandmothers both died within a week of each other..(I mean, thats gotta mean something huh???) so shes trying to make this work. He's a fat lazy so n so, he cant keep house, she hates going to visit, and he only ever does "it" in the missionary position! she was gunna wring his neck if he played up tonight.. why do they bother?? do the stars overwrite common sense?(he doesn't even believe in them)(not the ones in the Examiner anyway!) if she just said nope, i'm not coming tonight, wouldnt that be better for both of them??

Another strange thing was that I had a fare evasion. now this usually happens about every 6-8 months, so nothing unusual about that. The girl just ignored me, thats strange. She just kept walking, never even acnowleged me or even that she had done the wrong thing, or that she had forgotten something! thats the way to do it. its only $4.00, so wasnt so stressed, but will remember her face.
Wierd.
Also got a call to the phone box on the corner of mayfield street. Took it as an ajacent, so was about 8 minutes getting there. when i get there theres about 10 cops looking for some guy wearing handcuffs, an escapee from custody I presume. so I am guessing he called a Cab, then they got a bit close, and he had to run again. dont know if anyone else picked him up, or if he got caught..

Anyway had a good sleep after all that, Im up again now, this place needs some cleaning this afternoon. Anna baked biscuits last night, cant find em anywhere, (lol) but she left a mess. also some eggs need using up still, so I might do some baking as well.

Doing some surfing here while writing this, its a great medium for relaxing for me,(the writing) been a whiles since i kept a diary..Not so sure if I'll be publishing this on my website, thinking today i might as well. makes my life fairly transperent though, I feel.
Where was I? ok surf sites for today. Carl Carsens Site
Carl Carsen seems a nice guy, always active helping others, and biult some great models too.
Also wondering about pressure angles gor gear teeth.. does anyone know how to measure them?? I'll post to the Florida AME site with that query now I think.

Tues. 4 pm

well, off to work now, had a good afternoon, chatted to Yerdun for a while, also Headley. might have to get a model hit n miss kit someday! dunno. hope its busy tonight, thats all, still gotta find 4$400.00 toward my watch.. cant wait till i pick that up!.

tuesday...

Here i am, up early!
That seemed to work this morning, huh? only problem was, i posted it about 5 times! im heading off now, going to have some fun, out to Westbury. Done the dishes, ironed a few shirts, had a shower and coffee, so im ok to go. just gotta load the JD into the car.
