Wed arvo

I've been down and booked my airfaires to QLD today.. I travel up to brisbane on the 11th november, back down on the 17th. Primarily heading to Towoomba, but hope to get to see some people in Brisbane and surrounds while I'm there too. cant wait till the 11th!

Still got some steel to put away in the rack before tea.

Also the new Camden Catalog came yesterday, so dad and I are pouring over that to see what we can find. lots of good stuff in there, might get a clock book maybe?
BTW, Camden Books web site is here

Also ordered the brass flat stock for a depthing tool... two pieces (125 X 10 X 240)fairly expensive, but will make a top tool, I think.

thursday week

Has it really been this long.. time flies. Most arvo's iI've been doing errands etc, not much time to get online, as it is its work in 15 mins. Took Leighton's longcase clock stand back to him yesterday, he has a longcase that needs work. (think he may have dropped it in the hallway...) and took some books back to Graham Mulligan. He is moving shop this week, but I'll get in to see the new premises soon, I hope. priced a bit of brass flat 125 X 10 X 500 long, for a clock depthing tool, (OUCH) fairly silvery, but better than a Bergeon depthing tool at $1k. better run now. more soon

Wed night.

Another thing we saw at the Melbourne show were tethered cars.. lots of fun, There seems to be quite a following of this hobby, lots of vintage cars, and old style cars that members of tethered car clubs have built. They look great fun, is there a track in Tasmania??

tuesday

Will post some more pictures today, as there is still a few more errands to run before work.

this was a part finished Radial engine on one of the stands, other than it is electric start, and has 18 cylinders, I dont know a lot about it really.

and this is a Offenhauser racing engine, one of about 4 displayed. I believe these are just static models, not sure if they are Ron Collona's castings or not.

Saturday night.

To me these engines were the stars of the melbourne shows. Unfortunately they weren't running at the show, but showed evidence that they run well.
The one above is a model (about 1/4 scale I would guess)of a type "M" lister stationary engine, while the one below is a Sunshine two stroke engine, around the same scale.. very nice!

Wednesday night

well! finally getting to the show report I promised everyone.
We arrived at the engineering halls in monash at about 10 am, after driving from the Tullermarine side of town. we managed to find a park near the door, (good for Dad) and paid our seven bucks and got through the door.. first thing we saw inside was a Gent exhibiting a steam operated clock, almost complete, and running nicely. It was mounted on a temporary frame, about 7 feet to the centre of the dial. It looked destined to be set up outside as a street clock maybe.
another thing that took our eye just inside the door was a 2" scale showmans road loco,(the guy says he made it too small, should have been 4" scale..) and dad agrees..

a nice job really.
As for railway locos, this one wins for sheer size.. its an AD60 class beyer garret in 7 1/4" gauge. :-O Three metres Long, and super detail.

Another Loco was a 7 1/4" gauge model of Trevithick's Penydarren Locomotive.. very nice, and a lot of fun I would say!

Wednesday 2am

Its early here and nothing happening
here at all, because tomorrow the
launceston show starts.
Everyone is saving thier money to
send thier kids. Anyway, im still feeling
burnt out a bit after last weekend.
We spent up a bit too at the expo!
I bought dad a diamond tool holder,
been looking at them for a while actually.
Dad got a micrometer boring head,
with a set of boring bars and no.
3 morse taper adapter. Also got a
dvd, some A.M.E. Binders, and a
keyless drill chuck for $5.00!
Was a few items there at top dollar
as well, S.I.C. Mag back issues $20.00
and other books fairly exy.
